In August 2026, G4 Alliance members Dr. Chris Dodgion and Amy Leah Potter joined about 30 clinicians, policymakers and data specialists at a WHO Utstein meeting. The group was helping build the monitoring framework for the Emergency, Critical and Operative (ECO) Care strategy adopted at the World Health Assembly in May. Executive Director Colin McIff spoke with them about how the process works and what it means for surgical, obstetric, trauma and anaesthesia (SOTA) care. They also discussed how members can engage before the framework is finalized.
WHO will publish the final indicators and a process report at the end of the year. Until then, this conversation focuses on how the work was done rather than what was decided.
