Fistula: A Film to Promote Better Maternal Health Care Globally

We are thrilled to announce that the short documentary “Fistula: A Film to Promote Better Maternal Health Care Globally,” directed by Dearbhla Glynn, has been selected for the 5th World Health Organization Health for All Film Festival. Premiering at our Permanent Meeting in Brazil this year, the film shares the stories of two Ugandan women who overcame obstetric fistula.

Funded by the Maternal Health Fund, the University of Minnesota Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility, and the Global Women’s Initiative, the film was created in partnership with the G4 Alliance and the Terrewode Women’s Community Hospital. Dr. Rahel Nardos, who developed the film concept with Dearbhla, served as the executive producer.

“Fistula” is shortlisted for a Grand Prix award in the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) category, with winners to be announced on May 26 during the World Health Assembly. Support the film by commenting on YouTube and sharing it on social media with the hashtag #Film4Health.

Congratulations to Dearbhla, Rahel, and the team, and a special thank you to the women who shared their stories.
